Member Highlight: Community Vision/7 Corners Collaborative Building

The 7 Corners Collaborative Building opened in 2018, and is now serving as a hub for services for individuals experiencing disability. The building is owned by Community Vision and serves as its headquarters. However, there are five other nonprofits that provide an array of services to the disability community – ensuring that visitors to the building will leave with more information and resources than when they entered. The 7CCB was also designed using the principles of Universal Design, creating a the most barrier-free space possible.

What is one interesting fact about your space?

Our building kitchen was designed as both a working kitchen for the employees, as well as a demonstration space to show what’s possible in terms of accessible design. The kitchen includes multiple accessibility features, including:

  • Cabinets and sink on hydraulic lifts to increase accessibility.
  • Pull-out induction cooktop to ensure ease of access for individuals using wheelchairs.
  • Accessible oven and dishwasher.
  • Various seating height options with pedestal base tables for increased accessibility.

What are your favorite resources that you would recommend to others?

Community Vision also opened up an Assistive Technology Lab in the building. The staff in the lab assist individuals experiencing disability to match them with a variety of tools to remove barriers in their life. Their website is www.cv-atlab.org
